As I started placing the real life puzzle pieces together the method revealed itself as a graphic novel for a wall. I choose to combine graphic novel story tell with mapping. As I sorted through the images it became clear to me that all their roads lead to Johannesburg. Although the roads I refer to are not literal roads but rather narrative roads constructed in a time. Hence my play on the common idiom in the title, “all roads lead to roaming Joburg.” (‘Roaming’ - travel aimlessly about. ‘All roads lead to Rome’ -There are many different routes to the same goal.)
The Process: Step 1: Ask for volunteers to participate in my project at the Degrees Of Separation gathering. Step 2: Ask artist peers to photo-record one day in their life every hour on the hour for 12 waking hours. Step 3: I collected the photos and started building a story puzzle from pieces of there lives by drawing it out.
