The Narrative of Human Connection
The Interplay of Humanity and Environment through Narrative and Form.
Since moving to New Zealand, my work has evolved to explore the profound relationship between humans and their environment. I focus on the idea that we are not separate from the natural world, but an intrinsic part of it. In my recent artworks, I draw only the light, leaving shadows to the viewer’s imagination. This technique reflects my belief that the boundaries between humanity and nature are fluid, and that both are interconnected in subtle yet powerful ways. Inspired by Ian McGilchrist’s The Master and His Emissary, I explore the tension between division and wholeness, drawing on his idea that while we have an extraordinary ability to see the parts, it is our capacity to transcend that division and perceive the whole that leads to a deeper understanding.

The themes that shape my creative practice include:
- Transforming the mundane into something extraordinary.
- Playing with composition found in natural landscapes.
- Imagination, experimentation, and play as central to the process.
- Transferring thought through drawing and mark-making.
- The personalities and moods that emerge from choices in line and colour.
- Sketching as a means of developing ideas.
- The creation of games and playful methods of engagement.
- The sharing of ideas and collaborative storytelling.
- Exploring the viewer’s imagination in the space between.

I find inspiration in the simplicity of everyday life. By being present in the world around me, stories naturally unfold, leading me to new ways of seeing and understanding. Ordinary moments, like walks through the city or commuting through heavy traffic, offer rich material for my work. These experiences allow me to reflect on how people share common spaces yet see the world from different perspectives.
Through my work, I aim to invite viewers into a deeper reflection on their own relationships with the environment. I hope to create experiences that transcend the visual to evoke a sense of connection and engagement with the world around us. Art, for me, is not just about depicting reality; it is about finding new ways to understand our place within it. By challenging how we see and engage with both ourselves and the environment, I aspire to spark a dialogue that encourages deeper reflection, empathy, and awareness.
